Mercedes – Benz Body Types
For more than a century, Mercedes-Benz automobiles have been one the most desirable and finest in the world. Mercedes–Benz offers cars with a considerable range of various body styles as design trends and auto-technology have evolved.
Sedan
Sedans have traditionally been some of the best-known and most common Mercedes–Benz models. These cars have a solid attached roof, four doors and two rows of seating, an enclosed rear trunk and front-mounted engines. They are typically large.
Since 2010, Mercedes have been produced C and E-class sedans.
Coupe
Throughout its history, Mercedes–Benz has produced two-door and four-door coupes. Coupes are smaller than sedans. They have hard-tops, one or two seating rows and enclosed trunks. Though the most common configuration of coupe is 2 doors, some models, like the 2010 CLS-class, have four door.
Scissor-door and gull-wing coupes, like the SL-series, have the mostly distinctive design, which makes them valuable items for collector.
Roadster
Mercedes–Benz is also famous for its roadsters. These cars have a powerful engine, two seats and a convertible top. Roadsters use either a folding fabric top or a retractable hard top.
In 2010, Mercedes–Benz produced the SLK and SL–class roadsters.
Trucks
Mercedes also has a storied long history of producing trucks as well as other industrial vehicles. Mercedes’ buses and farm tractors are very common in Europe. One of the best-known Mercedes trucks is "Popemobile," famous for carrying the Pope and other important figures in public, being protected by a bulletproof glass enclosure and armor plating.
Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV)
Mercedes–Benz launched a passenger SUVs’ full line in the 1990s when the attractiveness of the body style was growing. SUVs were and are built on the truck platform. They feature such off-road capabilities like accessories like skid plates, all-wheel drive and high ground clearance.
Mercedes–Benz's 2010 line of SUV includes the M-, GLK-, G-, and GL–classes.
Limousines
Mercedes produces a custom limousines line, based on one of the automaker's sedans. Limousines use additional body panels and a stretched frame to provide extra length. Mercedes–Benz limousines also have security packages with run-flat tires, armor plating and other safety measures for carrying VIPs.
